Mac OS 7.1 or above Install or Boot Disk - Can’t Provide Link - Can Be Found In Above Websites
At least 1GB Of Free Space Should Be Available on Whatever Platform You Use This On
Use Mini vMac or Basilisk II to install Mac OS 7.5.5 - refer to YouTube for now until this Post gets updated
Once installed you can copy the .dsk file and place it in Fusion 3.0 folder. To make the disk compatible with Fusion change the file extension to .hfx or .HFX and save it. You can change the file extension back and forth as you please so that you can add files, games, and apps, to it later in Mini vMac but be sure to make a back up in case any data gets corrupted. Data corruption can be prevented by making sure to shut down each emulator when switching formats.
.HFX is also Compatible with Basilisk II - IMO Basilisk II isn’t as “user friendly” as Mini vMac but it does pack more features as Mini vMac only supports up Mac OS 7.5.5 and lacks CD-ROM Compatibility, which is required to install Mac OS 8.1 for use with Fusion 3.0 later
Duplicate This Disk For Use with Mac OS 8.1 We Will Need To Mount Both Disks In Basilisk II to update to 8.1 - This is necessary because we will need to transfer all files after the Mac OS 8.1 update to this disk but they can’t be the disk the system is booted from or it won’t copy all required files.
How To Run Mac OS 8.1 in Fusion 3.0
Things You Need
Fusion 3.0
Mac OS 8.1 Install CD - should be .iso - Can’t Provide Link
Basilisk II - Third Party Link Provided
Mini vMac - Explain Later - I Know 8.1 Isn’t Compatible
After installing Mac OS 7 to a .dsk create a new disk in Basilisk II with at least 300MB
Mount the Mac OS 8.1 Install CD .iso and Mount 1 of your 2 .hfx disk and click start
If proper settings are used Basilisk should boot Mac OS 7, tell you to initialize the hard disk and you should have the install cd mounted on your desktop
Run the setup and install it to newly formatted hard drive then copy all files from the drive to a folder and place it on desktop you can call it Mac OS 8 for now, make sure it is being copied to .hfx you created with Mini vMac and not new hard drive.
Restart Basilisk
Restart Basilisk II with hard drive as boot and Mount Both .hfx we got from Mini vMac
Upon restarting you should notice that Mac OS 8.1 is running which is great most would be happy here but to get it to work with Fusion we need to do one a couple more steps
Next we must copy all Files from inside Mac OS 8 Folder we made and copy those files to the root of our 2nd .dsk or .hfx partition on Mac OS 7 this will replace ALL system files in our partition once we load this into fusion it will load up 8.1 to test it out restart Basilisk with just the 8.1 .dsk or .hfx partition and if it loads then your done depending on what file extension you used with Basilisk all you have to do now is copy the .hfx in Fusion and boot from be sure to change the extension to .HFX if it has been changed
