How To Install Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro 2009 [COMPLETE GUIDE]

How to install Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro 2009 [Complete Guide]

This guide is constantly being updated. New information or charges to this blog may occur at any time. Please check back frequently for these updates. These guides take a lot of research, time, and development to produce.

This guide will show you how to install Windows 10 on a MacBook Pro 2009 and have all Features, Drivers, and Boot Camp working properly!

I will explain how to get past all or most errors effectively; What things to avoid doing when trying to install Windows 10 on the 2009 MacBook Pro. I will also explain some quick fixes and bypasses for these errors. Please keep in mind they are really temporary fixes to the actual software/hardware problem at hand.

-DISCLAIMERS-

The 2009 MacBook Pro has a 64Bit Architecture Processor. It is Recommended that you install 64bit versions of Windows for best results. Although 32bit versions of Windows will work on this particular device, keep in mind that you can only have a maximum of 4GB of installed Ram and you are under utilizing the CPU Performance And will be noticed drastically when playing games and using Video Editing Software such as Adobe Creative Studio. This is NOT vice-verse if you have a 32bit computer, for example, the 2006 MacBook, you can only install 32bit versions of Operating Systems or Software. This is not true for all software, but most will not run or run poorly compared to software written for the 64bit architecture on a 64bit Processor.

A few things I would like to mention is that you CANNOT start from Windows 10 and have everything work properly as one would expect. This is because when doing so you will run into devastating errors, or failure, in other terms; that cannot be fixed or remedied without the reinstallation of the Operation System.

Versions of Windows Recommended Windows 7 Ultimate And Windows 10 Pro

You will not be able to run the Boot Camp setup.exe in Windows 10
It will claim that Boot Camp is not compatible with the version of Windows it’s running on and can only be ran in Windows 7.

Changing compatibility modes will not fix this error and running as administrator will not fix this error either. However, you can install the drivers individually but you can not get the native Boot Camp Application that can be found in the Control Panel and Taskbar.

DO NOT INSTALL ANY GRAPHICS DRIVER IN WINDOWS 10!! Unless you have started from Windows 7 and installed them there. If you have Started in Windows 10, you will not be able to reboot with these drivers installed.

Do NOT Connect to the Internet in Windows 10 if you started in Windows 10 because it will try to use Windows Updates to install an Update and one of those Updates (specifically Nvidia Display Driver, GeForce 9400M Graphics Drivers) will brick your install, and you will need to restart from Windows 7.

When Windows Updates goes to install/update the MacBook Pros, Nvidia GeForce 9400M Graphics Drivers, upon restarting it will break your Operating System install. You will need to reinstall Windows 7/10 specifically for this reason.

A get around to this would be to not install any Graphics Drivers located in the Boot Camp Folder, install an application like this > Show/Hide Update Package Tool < from Microsoft that will stop or block the install of that specific Windows Update. The only drawback is that it has to already be found by Windows Update in order for it to block the Update. One option you have is to go into Windows Update and search for Updates and wait until it can find as many updates as possible and then run the Tool to BLOCK the Nvidia GeForce 9400M Display Driver So That Windows Updates Never Tries To Install this. As far as I know (specific to this device) that’s the only Update you will need to block.

Alternatively, another option is to keep Wi-Fi off as much as possible so Windows Update can’t find any Driver Updates and try to Install them. Also turning off Automatic pdates will make it harder for Windows Update to Download these Drivers. You will also have lack of a Dedicated Graphics driver installed, so Video and Graphic Animations will run very poorly and if you haven’t yet manually changed the resolution, it will stay in the unpleasant 800x600 screen resolution. This makes Windows look more zoomed in with less surface area, it also appears blotchy and distorted.

You will need an external mouse! This is very important later on, and you should not continue installing Windows 10 using this method if you do not have one. Although contradicting this guide, performing a clean, fresh install of Windows 10 will prevent this error, but you will eventually run into the same errors mentioned earlier in this guide, thus making Windows 10 unusable.

INSTALLING WINDOWS

The only way to bypass all these errors and have a completely successful install of Windows 10 is to ironically install Windows 7 as normal and install all drivers from there I will explain why later...then Update to Windows 10. There’s a catch you cannot do both installs and have everything work still you will run into an entirely different issue.

The reason we want to update  from Windows 7 is because Windows 10 will keep all files and programs already installed and integrate them to work with Windows 10 this bypassing the Boot Camp setup.exe failure and bypassing the Nvidia Graphics Drivers Install Failure. But there is still one more problem...

When you update to Windows 10 some of the drivers installed will be uninstalled or changed a little. Once at the Desktop locate your Boot Camp Drivers Folder And manually install all or any missing or non-working drivers and Restart Your Computer.

Upon Restarting you will notice that the TrackPad no longer works. There’s is a Fix But it requires the use of an external Mouse whether Wired or Wireless With a USB Dongle. A Bluetooth Mouse will not work if it wasn’t set-up before you Restarted The Computer, after you reinstalled the drivers manually; as you will not have a way to control the U.I. To navigate to that option to enable it, unless you were really good using just the keyboard to navigate in Windows.

Next you go to the Control Panel and navigate to Device Manager. You need to find the drivers for the Apple Multitouch TrackPad and Keyboard (Optional) and completely uninstall them. After uninstalling them simply Restart your Computer and everything will now be fully working and you can now reinstall the TrackPad Drivers if they weren’t already reinstalled upon Restarting.

If you installed all drivers in Windows 7 you will have the best Compatibility, but make sure BEFORE Windows 10 is Installed that all Boot Camp And MacBook Pro Drivers and the Native Boot Camp App is Installed and Running/Present in Taskbar or Control Panel and the Nvidia Graphics Driver is Already Installed And the Computer has already been Restarted in Windows 7, effectively embedding these updates.

You can Update Windows 7 Using a RETAIL CD Version of Windows 10, Utilizing the built-in CD/DVD Drive the MacBook Pro comes with. If you don’t have one (like me) you can use Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool to download the Windows.iso and Mount the Windows.iso Using DEAMON TOOLS LITE to Run and Install the Update.

IN ORDER TO UPDATE AND KEEP ALL FILES AND APPS YOU WILL NEED TO BE BOOTED INTO WINDOWS 7 AND RUN THE SETUP FROM THERE IF YOU BOOT FROM CD/DVD DRIVE OR USB IT WILL PROMPT FOR A CLEAN INSTALL OF WINDOWS 10.

At this point if you followed the guide completely you should have a complete install of Windows 10.
